Moving Forward

Thanks for visiting The Woke Traveller! Here’s hoping this project prompted you to think critically about some of the obscured, often racist elements of Banff’s (and greater Canadian) colonial history. Ideally, you will recognize that — although Indigenous communities have been incredibly resilient and adaptive — there is still significant work to be done in terms of bringing awareness to the struggles, victories, and continued efforts of Canada’s Indigenous peoples. It is extremely important to learn about and acknowledge histories of colonial violence and oppression and to work alongside impacted populations in generating positive representations of Canada’s Indigenous communities.
